If you want a bulky and comfortable headphone, go for AKG K701. Though it is not the best for outdoor use, have great soft padding to increase your comfort. It has a headband strap that adjusts automatically depending on your head shape and size. If well maintained, this headphone is quite durable.

Similarly, AKG K702 comes with well-padded circular ear cups. This makes them exceptionally comfortable. The self-adjusting headband safes your head from pressure. It’s also not suitable for use during physical activities due to its bulkiness.

Both headphones have equal weight and dimensions. It’s also good to note that the two are almost identical and have an old modelled look.

The suede-like fabric on the huge ear cups of these headphones gives them a super appearance. The most notable difference is that the K702 comes in a mix of two colours; silver and navy blue.

The K702 has other advantages that make it better. It has a removable cable and replaceable ear pads.

The K702 and the K701 headphones from AKG have an excellent build quality. These AKG headphones have a lot of moving parts, and this makes it prone to damage. This is a key concern among the users of these two headphones.

You should understand how to use them for mixing because neither comes with an inline-mic or a remote.

Headphone Sound Quality and Performance

Sound quality is the most crucial aspect of audio types of equipment. These headphones; the AKG K702 and K701 are designed for critical listening and studio mixing. They are not made with an additional boost as the case for some headphones. The two are standard studio equipment, and their sound is exceptional.

Most reviewers and users say that AKG 701 has decent and consistent bass, an excellent mid-range and its unique treble is unbeatable. On the other hand, the K702 has a noble treble, a superb mid-range and a good bass. When comparing these two headphones, the differences are apparent.

But which among the two has an impressive performance?

Bass

When we factor this, the K702 produces a super low bass unlike the K702. The low bass is responsible for a punch sound. Hence, it is quite evident that AKG K701 offers an incredible bass performance.

Music instruments like the acoustic guitars work better with AKG K702 headphones because it has a better low mid compared to the K701. The K701 has a better mid-range sound making it better than the K702. For a perfect sound, there must be a reasonable sound balance.

The K702 retains its clarity because it has a mid-range that doesn’t mix up with its mid-bass. Remember, it has a better low mid when compared to the AKG K701. With the K701 having a higher mid-range, it can’t offer a perfect high-range sound.

Treble

Both headphones have low treble, which is emphasized for more detailed sound. This is paramount for various lead instruments and vocals. The AKG K701 headphone has a better mid-treble, which makes it give a better sibilance. Generally, treble in these two headphones is similar in producing a clear sound.

Noise Isolation

The K702 and the K701 are open-back headphones and cannot work well in noisy environments. For their open-back characteristic, they can’t effectively block ambient noise from outside.
